General Solar Questions

General Solar Questions

How does solar energy work?

Solar panels (photovoltaic cells) convert sunlight directly into electricity. The DC electricity is passed through an inverter that converts it to AC power – the type used by your home appliances. Any surplus is fed back to the CEB/LECO grid through net metering, earning you credits on your bill.

Absolutely. Sri Lanka receives an average of 5-6 peak sun hours per day, making it one of the most solar-favourable countries in Asia. Most residential systems achieve payback within 4-6 years and deliver free electricity for 20+ years after that.

Tier-1 panels continue generating power under diffuse light, just at a lower output – typically 10-25% of peak capacity. On-grid systems draw the balance from the CEB/LECO grid, so you always have power. Off-grid and hybrid systems use battery storage to bridge those gaps.

In most cases, yes. A system is sized to your actual monthly consumption. We analyse 12 months of your electricity bills, assess your roof space and orientation, and design a system that covers your average daily usage.

Installation & Process

Installation & Process

How long does the installation process take?

From site assessment to switch-on, most residential systems are completed in 1-2 days of physical installation. The full timeline including CEB/LECO net metering approval is typically 2-4 weeks – our regulatory team handles 100% of the paperwork for you.

Typically 2 to 4 weeks. Our regulatory team handles 100% of the paperwork for you, from the initial application to the final meter connection.

Rarely. Our mounting systems are designed for tile, metal sheet, concrete, and flat roofs without major structural changes. We conduct a full structural assessment during the site survey and will advise on any preparatory work needed.

You receive a 10-year product warranty on panels, a 25-year linear performance guarantee (panels retain 80%+ output), a 5-year inverter warranty, and a 1-year workmanship warranty on our installation.

Pricing & Savings

Pricing & Savings

How much does a solar system cost?

Costs vary with system size and equipment tier. A typical 5 kW residential system ranges from LKR 1.2 to 1.6 million fully installed. We provide a detailed, itemised quotation after the free site assessment – there are no hidden charges.

We work with several partner banks that offer solar-specific loans at preferential rates, often with zero down payment options. Leasing and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) structures are also available.

On-Grid systems connect to the CEB/LECO grid; surplus power is credited to your bill. Off-Grid systems run independently on batteries. Hybrid systems combine both: grid backup AND battery storage for maximum resilience and savings.

Immediately from the first full billing cycle after commissioning. Most customers see a 60-90% reduction in their monthly CEB/LECO bill.

Maintenance & After-Sales

Maintenance & After-Sales

How much maintenance does a solar system need?

Very little. Simple panel washing every 2-3 months is recommended due to dust and sea spray. We cover this free for your first two years. Beyond cleaning, panels are solid-state with no moving parts and require minimal attention.

Contact our after-sales team and we will arrange an inspection within 48 hours. Manufacturing defects are covered by the product warranty. External damage is typically covered under your home insurance policy.

Yes. All our systems include a Wi-Fi-enabled monitoring device and a mobile app where you can track real-time generation, consumption, export, and battery status. Our team also monitors remotely and alerts you to any performance drop.

On-grid systems shut down during a grid outage for safety (anti-islanding protection). Hybrid and off-grid systems with battery storage continue powering your home seamlessly during outages.
